I Don't care if it Rains or Freezes...

In the Detroit Freepress Matt Helms wrote an article describing how lawmakers would like to legalize hanging items from rearview mirrors.  Even though it really doesn’t matter because everyone still does.  They are thinking to rewrite it so it only bans big items like fuzzy dice from your rearview, but small items are okay.

The quote I most agree with was what Sen. Ron Jelinek said, “I call it a ‘gotcha’ law.  It’s an excuse to pull someone over”.   The ban really is useless because no one follows it anyways people put graduation tassels, air freshners, rosaries and other things that are special to them already on their mirror.  So, the ban is just an excuse for police to pull you over and give you ticket and no one wants that.
 

My papa used to sing a song that had the following lyrics "I don't care if it rains or freezes as long as I have my plastic Jesus".  The song was about how having his plastic Jesus with him made him feel safe regardless of driving conditions.  Many people feel the same way and they like to hang things that are special to them like rosaries, graduation tassels, or even saints from their rear view mirror.  I think that people should be allowed to hang whatever is special to them if it makes them feel better, but as long as it doesn't effect their view of the road.   

Somtimes everything isn't Black or White

Over the weekend I read an article by Mitch Albom entitled, “It’s not race, LeBron James, but it might be you”.  I think the main point that Mitch was trying to make is that you shouldn’t blame anything on race because it’s not about race it’s about how you are as a person. Also, someone shouldn’t encourage that it could be about race because then he or she going to think that it’s okay to use it.  Like in the article when Lebron James was asked about the criticism of his free agency the reporter asked if it was because of his race and of course Lebron said yes.  I agree with Albom that race has nothing to do with how you are as a person and in this case Lebron James has a huge ego and it has nothing to do with the color of his skin.  I think one of the best points Mitch Albom made is when he explains that nobody asked Lebron when he was drafted number 1 out of high school, when he was MVP, or when he was making more than 100 basketball players combined that if it was because of race.  Nobody ever asked Lebron when he had all the positives showering down on him that if it was because of his race but as soon as he is criticized, it is because he is black.  Mitch’s point makes you think more of how things can change in different situations and that shows especially with race. It never matters when everything’s good, but as soon as negatives show up it’s always blamed on something else like race.
